Could Shakira become a reality television star?

It has been reported that music television powerhouse MTV is pitching to Shakira about appearing on a new reality TV show that goes behind-the-scenes as she makes her new album.

The channel see’s the iconic Colombian as the perfect fit for their concept of a new reality TV series that will bring to life the process of producing an album.

Shakira to receive award at ALMA Awards 2008

Shakira is to receive a special honor at this year’s ALMA Awards it has been confirmed. The Colombian will be presented with an award to celebrate her many contributions to the entertainment world and American cultures next month.

The ALMA Awards 2008 will be hosted at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on August 17th, and will be broadcast on 12th September by ABC from 8pm EST.

Shakira is to perform for free in Colombia to free hostages

Shakira is to put on a free concert in her native Colombia on Sunday in a bid to put pressure on a rebel group in the country to set free their hostages.

The international superstar will be joined by fellow Colombian pop star Carlos Vives for the special independence day show that aims to bring attention to the plight of the captured prisoners.

Shakira has already met with former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt this past Wednesday to discuss the issue. Betancourt was recently released by FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) and shared first-hand experiences with the good-hearted musician.

Shakira signs lucrative deal with live nation Shakira has become the latest star to sign a lucrative contract with the concert promoter Live Nation, her representatives have confirmed.

The deal gives the group all rights to the Columbian’s music projects, new albums, tours, merchandise, websites and films.

Reports in the US suggest the deal could be worth as much as $100million.
